Own it forever, no SaaS treadmill
I have been waiting for a self hosted alternative to the monthly accounting SaaS I was on for three years. CWFMS gets net worth tracking, accounting basics, and even multi entity setup right. Runs on standard cPanel which is the right call for the audience. Bought it last month and have already saved my next year of subscription costs.

A throwback that mostly works
This thing is unapologetically a PHP app from a different era and I respect it. No database server, just flat JSON files, which sounds wild until you realize you can back up your accounting by zipping a folder. UI is utilitarian to put it gently. If you need pretty charts go elsewhere. If you want to own your numbers and never see a renewal email, this works.

Self hosted is the entire selling point
CWFMS is a niche pick that only makes sense if you specifically want self hosted accounting on cheap shared hosting. The flat JSON storage is unusual and works for small datasets. Worth knowing this will not scale to enterprise needs and the UI is unapologetically utilitarian. Best for solopreneurs and tiny businesses who want to own their data. Documentation is decent.

If you are a freelancer or one person business who wants to escape monthly accounting subscriptions and you already have basic web hosting, CWFMS makes sense. UI is plain. Features cover the basics well, do not expect bells and whistles. Best for users comfortable with their own backups. Hard pass if you want pretty dashboards.
